1. The reason I believe pastoral times would be considered utopian is because of their simplicity. The world now is very scrambled compared to the simplicity of the old days. Now we have the luxury of high tech, and other advanced products in our lives. But, the simplicity of their lives, in historic times, I believe is very utopian. They lived peacefully, they kept to themselves, helped out a neighbor without any second thoughts. Their lives were filled with the joys of the world compared to the joys of our phone, tv, or video games. Families naturally had better relationships with each other inside of their family and with other families. You didn’t have the luxury of knowing hundreds and hundreds of people all over the world which forced you to live simply.
2. Personally, I prefer fantasy over science fiction. Although, at times I do enjoy science fiction the majority of the time I prefer fantasy. I usually find myself picking a good fantasy storyline compared to science fiction because of the utopian side of it. The best way I could describe why is that I enjoy the visual calmness that it brings me. Whether it be the visuals I get from reading a book or the visuals shown in the movie. Fantasy has always been calm to me compared to science fiction. As I said above science fiction seems to be more high tech, scrambled. Where I see fantasy as calmer and simpler. Although I wouldn’t portray fantasy to be historical and science fiction to be futuristic all of the time. I do believe that the majority of the time those are portrayed in subtle ways though.
