Self-consciousness(emotional state)- Swan seems to not see herself in necessarily the best light. This is demonstrated very much so when Wahram first sees her body. She immediately feels embarrassed and says she knows it's strange.
Risk-Taking(character trait)- She's not afraid to be seriously hurt or even killed. She literally walks through the sun flares, which could have caused her to die through radiation. This shows a side of her that is unwilling to back down from a challenge.
Combative(emotional state)- She likes to argue back quite often. She gets into quarrels with her qube most often.
Impatient(emotional state)- Swan wants to go at her own pace. Which when demonstrated on page 45, where Swan complains about Wahram being to slow.
Determined(emotional state)- As mentioned, she has a attitude that says she she won't stop until she succeeds. This also pertains to when she is trying to find info. She admits that Alex didn't leave her with much information before her passing. So now she's gathering all that she can.
Unique(character trait)- Swan is very unique in the sense that she is very artistic. This sticks out due to the rest of her world (as well as the universe that the book takes place in) is far more focused on technology. She is not only an artist, but she was also originally a designer for asteroid terrarium.
Knowledgeable(character trait)- Wahram is well versed with the subjects of history and art. He makes several references to philosophers and artist of the far past. This includes mentions to the renaissance era, and even one the most well known philosophers, Aristotle.
Self-kept-(emotional response) In contrast to Swan, he doesn't seem nearly as open to talking. Even when discussing his work, he gives little to no input. In a humorous way, he fits the introverted artist stereotype to a tea.
Patient-(character trait)Despite Swan pestering him from time to time, he seems to be very patient with her. This can be shown whenever she gets frustrated or irritated with someone. He keeps her up and tries to be supportive.
Humble (character trait) - When asked asked to whistle a few songs, he does so without an iota of pride. This demonstrated also when he shows his art. He didn't hype them up as something that spectacular, despite the quality of them.
Careful(emotional state)- Another major contrast between Swan and Wahram is their risk taking. Whereas Swan is willing to take risks no matter the cost, Wahram is much more cautious. This is shown when Swan just runs ahead without care and he tries to hold her back, knowing there's likely a safer path to take.
When we first meet Wahram, the book doesn't paint him the best light. However, the book uses a method of using a turn-around by having these two characters (Swan and Wahram) grow their relationship more and more. By doing this, we as the reader grow to understand, relate, and even like him as a character.
