Creative- Even while bed stricken Swan was thinking of how to create a memorial of the disaster. Noting her body was in no condition to be used for art. Pg 168
Just- Swan want's to make things right. Whether it be making a memorial, or joining an investigation of the incident she seems to want to help in any way possible.
Bold- Despite being unknowing of what may come to her by joining the investigation, she joins anyway. She also took a direct hit from a solar flare to save Wahram.
Durable- After being hit by a solar flare she survived the several day trek to safety.
Persistent- When Swan has an idea she has a tendency to stick to it. An example of this is when she ignores Pauline's warnings about her own requests.
Irksome- He has a tendency to frustrate Swan whenever he sees fit. An example of this is on page 170, where his fortunes seem to be used to annoy Swan.
Quiet- He likes to stay back. Rather than running the conversation he often just adds to a conversation other people are having.
Persevering- While Swan was being short with him after taking on a lot of radiation he continued to carry and push her further. "I don’t want to talk,” she said when he asked again. "Shut up and let me be. You’re worthless to me. When things get tough,you’re worthless." Pg 157 This is an example of Swan being quite hurtful and Wahram continuing on despite it.
Robinson often uses the characters to imply judgement. Whether this is positive or negative judgement depends on the viewer. An example of this is on page 168, "Mqaret objected more tactfully, pointing out that Swan was not yet recovered enough to use her body as a canvas.
