1. The past will always hold you back. Your actions in the past affects where you are today. Actions open and close doors, doors which can often not be reopened. The people around you won’t forget your past, and that will diminish your opportunities. One is not truly free without limitless opportunities. The choices you made in your past are what imprison you from being whatever, or whoever, you wish to be.
2. I don’t think hamlet solved the conflict of individual freedom and the freedom of the collective. His urge to get his revenge left him to forget the needs of everyone around him. Shakespeare shows a clear, and selfish, need for revenge coming from hamlet. Hamlet’s quest for revenge led to many of the characters dying, and most of the relationships of the clan being destroyed.
3. Robinson clearly depicts the large corporations as the main cause of fear and death. I believe this depiction shows his views on solutions of the contradictions of freedom of the individual and freedom from necessity. Robinson seems to believe the large corporations need to be controlled so they don’t grow so large that the freedoms of the individual become non-existent.
